The Rental Project Mood Swing (2009

A project researching the mood in your house leads to mood enhancing drawings.

Why does the atmosphere of a whole house change when someone comes home in a fowl mood? And why are there also times when it doesn’t matter at all what mood the other occupants of a space are in?People who rented ‘Mood Swing’ were examined by the artist. They received a questionaire and filedl in their moods and their ‘mood-wishes’. The answers were used by the artist to create a work of ‘mixed feelings’, with which she didn’t only visualize the moods of a household, but also tried to influence them.

‘Mood Swing’ was developed by Babette Wagenvoort for 'Het Nieuwe Huren’ (The New Renting).
Het Nieuwe Huren, initiated by Esther Didden in 2005, is a special collection of art projects that are for rent. With Het Nieuwe Huren people didn’t rent a specific artwork. Instead they rented an artist and his/her way of working or communicating.
Like the other projects that are part of Het Nieuwe Huren, ‘Mood Swing’ challenges anyone who rented the project to experience their daily environment in a new way.

The Book: Mood Swing, an alphabet of moods (2009)

The book contains 67 moods and their opposites. Some examples below are: Lonely/Not Lonely; Powerful/ Not Powerful; Bored/ Not Bored; Content/Not Content; Romantic/ Not Romantic.

Custom-made mood-enhancing window drawing in Theatre Zeebelt, Den Haag (2009-2013)

Visitors of Zeebelt Theater filled in the Mood Swing questionnaire and received this custom-made wall drawing on the main window of the theatre, where it remained untill the theatre unfortunately had to close.
